What You Can Do In a Blizzard

January 12, 2011

We are currently buried in 18.5″ of snow, and it continues to fall.  Schools are closed, businesses are shut down, and the governor has declared a state of emergency.  So what can you do to pass the time?  Below is a list of tried and true ideas:

  1. Watch the news replay the same snow footage for an hour.
  2. Send your husband out to shovel.
  3. Put on your own boots, hat, and gloves when your husband yells for help while shoveling (no injury occurred).
  4. Go out to help your husband shovel, only to break your shovel in half midway through the driveway.
  5. Make friends with your new next door neighbor who has a snow blower.  Appear to be the charming, friendly couple that you are, and eventually go in for the kill – “May we borrow your snow blower?”  Sadly, access denied.
  6. Go inside and make grilled cheese and soup for lunch.  However, leave it sitting out until it gets cold while you run outside to turn off your car.  You forgot you left it running in the driveway.
  7. Watch a cheap movie on OnDemand, only to understand why it is so cheap to rent.
  8. Drink wine.
  9. Send your husband out to shovel again.  You keep drinking wine.
  10. Change dinner plans because walking to the pizza shop next door would require us to burrow through snow.

Please feel free to add to this list.  We shall repeat the above actions tomorrow, as it appears the state will continue to be closed down.  The snow is still falling.

Denied access to a snow blower?? Midwesterners would never do that! Maybe you guys need to consider a move? 🙂

Meanwhile, I sit at my desk, T-minus 5 minutes from my first meeting of the day and think, “I wish we were in a state of snow emergency…”
